North Devon Design offer a full Web Development service to external design agencies as well as our own in-house design team
Our web development work is carried out in-house using Open Source applications and technologies such as:

We can carry a project from initial conception into design and right through to completion and hosting.
Open Source Web Development
Using Open Source technologies increases the range of services we can offer as well as significantly reducing development time and costs. All of our sites come with a Content Management System connecting to an SQL database. Our hosting environment allows for the easy update and inclusion of many third-party, PHP plugin applications that can quickly enhance your website or application in a cost effective way.
As well as developing full websites, we also develop web applications, mobile applications, widgets and plugins to deliver content to third-party websites.

The majority of our websites are built using WordPress but we also have experience working with:
- Drupal
- Joomla
- Magento
Existing sites
The majority of our web development work is on new website builds, however we do also take over existing sites to bring them up to date through design, framework, security and functional features.
It’s not always straightforward to work on an existing site if access to the site or domain name is lost or prohibited, but we always find a solution.
Security
Frameworks such as WordPress are widely supported in an open-source community, meaning many people contribute to creating plugins which add additional functionality to the site. However, if these plugins are not constantly updated, then there is a possibility that they may become a security risk when other technologies involved in the site are moving forward. Part of our development process is to only use known and tested secure plugins, and ones that will be regularly updated. Our code and all the code in the site is thoroughly tested before deployment.
How we work
Our Web Development team work closely with the design team to ensure that the site does everything that was discussed and agreed in the planning stages. Our Web Development team work with our own in-house team and with external teams when just Web Development is required.
The websites featured on our Web Design page have all been developed by North Devon Design. However, we have built many, many other sites on behalf of third-party clients, but are unable to list those sites.
We work alongside external design companies that either don’t have the in-house skills or the capacity to complete a job by the deadline. In that case they will supply us with Photoshop files, wire-frame designs and a site map.
Sites that we build and manage are hosted on our own servers, but for external clients, we can deploy to their server.
